Lotus blossoms drift on a shallow lake beneath the rustling leaves of ancient shade trees. Flowers flourish along the shore on a summer afternoon. Claudia Thomaz invokes the romanticism of bygone centuries with this beautiful dyptich. In the foreground, a barefoot girl in a long, flowing dress quietly reads a book.

"Romantic Impressionism at its Best"
Beautiful. Thomaz has a wonderful sense of the romantic and the skills needed to bring her ideas to the canvas. The colors and textures match the mood of the couple at the focal point of the scene; a scene whose composition is almost perfect. What can't be seen in the jpg photo on the web site is the paintings plasticity which Thomaz achieved by using thick drops of paint on the leaves in the foreground. I live in a relatively large European city and I first searched the galleries here for an appropriate anniversary gift for my wife, but found nothing on offer in any price range that matches the romantic emotions conveyed by this painting. Thomaz is a talented artist and, for the right occasion, I would not hesitate to buy another one of her works.
