Originating from Liberia and Cote D'Ivoire, Dan sculptors are reputed for favoring themes that center on education, competition, war, peace, and social regulations and entertainment. Ellis carves the sese wood mask by hand featuring low relief patterns in a dark brown hue. The lips, eyes and headdress are painted red.
