Northern Thai Temple Art Painting, "The Prince"

A young prince is elegant and handsome as he goes to the palace. Accompanied by ten companions, he carries a red parasol and dresses in the style of Northern Thailand in the late 19th century. Pathawee interprets a famous painting in the Viharn Lai Kam, or Gilded Assembly Hall at Wat Phumin.

Wat Phumin, in Nan province, is situated in northern Thailand and was established in the period of Sukhothai. It differs from other temples in that its ceremonial and public areas are housed under the same roof. Its murals depict the Buddha, local legends and the lifestyle and culture of Lanna (northern Thai) people in the past.
