Noah is a venerable elder with a fluffy white beard. Standing aboard his ark, he watches the animals walk onto dry land two by two. Whales, duck, seals and flamingos cavort in the shallow water while giraffes, zebras, tigers and lions stretch their legs beneath budding trees. In his hand, Noah holds the olive branch that was a sign the great flood was over.
María Uyauri creates the scene in intricate arpillería – embroidered appliqués of fabric cutouts hand-stitched to a background of cotton. Crafted in three dimensions, each figure is lavishly embroidered. A display rod (not included) can slip through an opening at the top of the wall hanging.

This is just full of joy and peace. The material used for the sky is my favorite part. This is the second one I have from this artisan. Her love of detail and color make these works soothing to contemplate after a long day. Well worth the splurge. Thank you so much!
