Rustling palms and banana trees line the steep slope of a Rio de Janeiro mountainside. Working in the cool evening, women hang laundry out to dry or run errands before retiring. D. Andrade selects cedar wood for his canvas as he depicts a populous urban neighborhood in the tropics. The iconic statue of Christ the Redeemer stands atop Corcovado hill in the distant background.
