This lovely tote bag blends Mayan tradition with today's fashion. The exterior is cotton handwoven on a backstrap loom. Designed by Luisa Villavicencio of Guatemala, the exterior fabric is made from cotton harvested from her family farm. The beige colors are the natural color of the cotton varieties grown on the Villavicencio farm, mixed with black to create a subtle stripe on the body of the bag and a diamond pattern at the top. The diamond pattern is called rupan, which means "dish" and symbolizes the sacred dishes that are used to make offerings to the gods in Mayan ceremonies. The tote bag has brown leather handles and matching leather on the bottom. The spacious main compartment secures with a magnetic snap and is lined with brown cotton with a zippered pocket set into the lining.
