Delivery EstimateWearing the skin of a jaguar, a young man dances to the sound of an unseen drum as he imitates the movements of the lithe jungle cat. Ruben and Gilda Perez depicts an image from a vase discovered at Altar de Sacrificios, an ancient Maya site locate upriver from Yaxchilan. An offering in Burial 96, the original polychrome vase is crafted of terracotta and on display at Guatemala's Museum of Anthropology and History.
The Guatemalan artisans etch the intricate motifs into natural jade and display the plaque on a black pinewood base.

Working with Disabilities
One of Ruben and Gilda's assistants was in a motorcycle accident several years ago. He injured his foot, which left him without a job. Ruben and Gilda have hired this man with pride as he is a hard worker and a great asset to their team.
Preserving Traditions
Ruben and Gilda's parents taught them the value of hard work and that art is an expression of culture. Many of their designs include jade, which was highly valued by ancient civilizations in the area and used as ornaments, tools, and burial artifacts. Their artwork is often a reflection of Guatemalan culture and they used techniques passed down over generations.
Moving On Up
Thanks to their hard work and partnership with NOVICA, Ruben and Gilda have been able to build their own house and support their children's education. They hope to continue to grow their sales through NOVICA so they do not have to seek out other, more complicated markets.

Their youngest son faces many health challenges but every day they work to give him a normal life without limitations. Ruben and Gilda are amazing parents who strive everyday to give their children the best life possible.
