Legend tells how West African kente cloth was inspired by the intricate work of forest spiders weaving their webs. Ghana's Madam Adwoa and Onyame Akwan Dooso present a modern interpretation of this textile tradition in this vibrant shawl. A cotton blend is artfully handwoven to form striped and geometric motifs. Each strip of kente cloth requires considerable effort, and the looms are worked with both hands and feet, and four strips are joined to create this wrap. Its primary color, yellow, represents preciousness and royalty, while the red symbolizes spiritual moods.
