Using silkscreen techniques to produce this vividly-colored image, Antonio Martínez produces a surrealist work with an unsettling quality. He depicts a rooster man wearing a traditional sombrero, or "hat," seated in a rocking chair and smoking a pipe. In his arms, the figure holds a rooster on which a nude woman rests; the female bears a striking resemblance to the nude woman portrayed in Spanish painter Francisco Goya's late 18th century work, La Maja Desnuda, or "The Naked Maja." The Mexican artist presents an enigmatic creation in which he weaves elements of quotidian rural life in Mexico with European-influenced imagery. The limited edition print is signed and numbered.Titled "El Goya de Oro" in Spanish.
