Created to tie around the wrist, this handsome bracelet showcases Guatemala's splendid weavings. Karina Mercedes Canova designs the piece with black leather and recycled Maya huipil blouses. "Guatemala's culture is filled with color and magic, expressed in each one of its textile arts," she says.
The weavings are created entirely by hand. The motifs can vary slightly, according to the artisan's inspiration, making each bracelet unique.
"As a designer, my main work is to make the world aware of the richness of Maya culture. Guatemala is the cradle of this unique civilization. When you choose my handbags, you are acquiring a piece of history because the Maya weaver combines creativity and tradition in every textile. This is why these handbags are unique. You are also fostering the continued use of the backstrap loom so that this art will be taught to future generations and not be lost."
The Women's Empowerment badge is awarded to female artisans or artisan groups that are led by women.
Karina is a designer so she and works closely with artisans who help make her designs come to life.
