“My name is Janeth Marilu Perez Torres. I was born in 1982 in the great city of Lima. I consider myself to be an entrepreneurial woman; when I decide to do something, I pursue it until I achieve my goal. I am very active, creative, and perfectionistic, especially when it comes to the art that I make, which requires a lot of precision, detail, and patience. I take knowledge and transmit it through sculpture.
“I have experienced very difficult times in my life, and one that makes me feel very proud is having been able to make my workshop thrive. I started from scratch with a lot of fears and insecurities, but if it was easy, it wouldn’t be meaningful. Sometimes, the beginnings are difficult, but the desire and the intention are what make it worth it.
“I have a vision that my crafts will transcend, bringing my art to the entire world and positioning myself in the national and international markets as one of the best in my field. This is always my attitude. This allows our pieces travel throughout the world, bringing a little of our culture and essence with them. I really like all kinds of art; they offer ways to express my emotions and are a part of me.
“Dedicating myself to this art is in my roots. I was raised surrounded by sculptures, grounded in the traditional style. All of my family members have dedicated themselves to art. In this way, I carry sculpture and art in my veins. I inherited this art from my father. All of our family members dedicate themselves to the creation of handicrafts.
“This art has given me so much. It has taught me patience, dedication, and passion for what is ours. These factors are very important and fundamental, and have become the pillars of my day-to-day.
“What most pleases me and comforts my soul is seeing my clients enjoying the pieces that they receive. Seeing them value and admire what was created with so much love and passion in my workshop is one of the most enjoyable experiences. I love seeing my clients happy and satisfied.
“All that which inspires me comes from parts of my beautiful Peru and the love that I have for my homeland. I am the caretaker of an incredible cultural and natural richness.
“With time, I have created a team that has become my family. We have someone who is dedicated to drawing, someone who does the cutting, the master (who is the best at sculpting), as well as family members who have committed to give their best. I love this, since it makes me proud of all of my work.
“I am very committed to spreading our culture. We want to grow in order to train more artists, and in this way many can sustain themselves through our workshop. I am very grateful to be a part of the Novica family and to be able to bring my work to so many new people.”
