Mujiyono of Java designs this exquisite pair of handcrafted traditional Indonesian wayang kulit, shadow puppets made of perforated, elaborately painted leather. Such puppets were used in nighttime performances, usually on such important occasions as birthdays or anniversaries. This pair of puppets are husband and wife Kamajaya and Kamaratih, who are never separated and are a symbol of loyalty of a married couple. Made of leather parchment, the puppets are perforated to allow intricate designs to be revealed when shadows are cast, and meticulously painted with extraordinary detail. The puppets are attached to a buffalo horn rod and come with a round wood display base, which is detached for shipping.
