White flowers stand out against an indigo base on this cotton shawl from Guatemala. To create the design, artisans Jacqueline and Monica use a technique called itajime in which wooden templates are attached to the fabric to keep the dye from coloring the entire piece. Indigo tassels add a decorative touch to the shawl, which can double as a scarf.
