Handmade Sterling Silver Bird Pendant, "Back to My Roots"
Transformed into a pendant by Joycelyn Sena Zigah is a beloved Adinkra symbol. These West African symbols communicate sayings and concepts through images. "The Sankofa depicts a bird that turns to look over its shoulder. It literally means to 'go back and get it', also translated as 'back to my roots.' Sankofa symbolizes one taking from the past what is good and bringing it into the present in order to make positive progress through the benevolent use of knowledge," she says.

"Not what I expected"
Slightly disappointed with the size and detail of the pendant. I expected more weight and craftsmanship.

"Beautiful, well made ring!"
I love the detail in this ring. Mrs Zigah is an excellent silversmith. I wish she would make match earrings, necklace and bracelet cuff with this same design.

Though she was not born in West Africa, my granddaughter (born in Ethiopia) will treasure this for her whole life. She was so thrilled to receive it.
