About this Item

Maya Artists of the Yucatan hand-weave glistening bronze hues into a handsome hammock. Long before the Spanish arrived upon the coasts of the Yucatan Peninsula, the Maya preferred to sleep and rest in hammocks. They considered the hammock to be like the loving embrace of a mother, due to the comfortable manner in which the body is held and swung within its cradle. Maya Artists of the Yucatan seek to preserve time-honored customs while also offering stylized versions of the original Maya hammock. For them, the hammock is a work of art. Their hammocks are incredibly comfortable, easy to maintain, and may be stored just about anywhere.

Please note: The accompanying extension ropes may vary in color from those shown in the images.

It easily packs for travel to the beach or lake. Extender ropes (measuring 1 meter), hammock hooks ("S" hooks), and step-by-step instructions included for easy installation.

NOTE: Because each is woven individually by hand, measurements may vary by as much as ten centimeters. There may be slight color variations from hammock to hammock.

“Fantastic Hammock!”

I love setting this up and wrapping myself inside on a cool summer evening. The craftsmanship is amazing! I was quite pleased by the intricacies and attention to detail. It is soft and amazingly versatile to lay in. I am 6 2 and have no problem laying in it any way I choose. It comes with ropes to tie to trees and hooks to attach the hammock with. I leave the ropes in the trees and remove the hammock when Im not using it because the wind where I live is strong and I found that it can get tangled if left to the weather. Best to take care of prized possessions like this that were made with love. I can feel the spirit of the artists who made it. It is the most peaceful and comfortable hammock Ive ever used. I highly recommend to anyone who thinks they might use something like this.

“Breathtakingly beautiful and practical”

This hammock is as beautiful as the photos. It has been on my dream board for many years but it was only recently that I was able to afford it and also clear a space on my balcony for a hammock stand (from Walmart). I face west and the golden bronze colour is particularly luminous at sunset. It is a dream come true! The double size creates a privacy screen from my neighbours when I lie diagonally as I live in the city. It arrived within 3 days from Mexico, including going through Customs!!! I had been having a challenging day and when I opened the eco packaging and saw the beautiful hammock and the thoughtful hand-written thank you card, tears of joy starting streaming down my face. I am grateful that I was able to support an artisan and their community. I love my hammock and the comfort and joy it gives me in the loving embrace of a mother. It increases my living space so that I can truly enjoy my summer stay-cation during COVID. Thank you to the artisan, Paulina, and NOVICA!

“Absolutely Beautiful!”

I cannot express the extent of my joy and gratitude when I received my hammock! There was a delay in my delivery and the company was great about communicating changes and updates with me throughout the process. They also relieved me of my delivery fee & offered a small store credit to compensate for the trouble. When the hammock arrived, I was struck by the simple but beautiful wrapping. I felt like I was receiving a gift! It even smelled lovely! The color is so rich and beautiful, the fabric is soft and real, the hammock is spacious and sturdy and absolutely gorgeous! When I first laid down in it, I felt like I was wrapped and held in a warm embrace. I hung it beside my bed for reading and relaxing and offering me safe, cozy space to unwind. Should I desire to purchase hammocks as gifts for my beloveds, I will search no further! Happy to support the artists and very grateful for their talents, skills, and incredibly positive energy (which was actually FELT in the product.) Thank you!
