"When I first heard about this I felt demoralized. But since I love making jewelry so much, and I believe that practice does make perfect, I decided to carry on..."
"Art is something that has been alive in me for very long. As a little girl I was always drawing and crafting things to give to my friends. I have happy memories of growing up in a small district south of Lima. My father has a military and security background as well as a great artistic inclination. From mother I inherited the ability to knit and craft.
"When I went to college I also took courses in sculpting, something that took over my life completely and became my profession through Lima's Art Museum, where I took courses in painting and sculpting, and where I also held some collective exhibitions. I've also taken courses in a variety of fields that have interested me such as graphic design, basic electronics, fluffy toys, and weaving with copper and silver.
"I love to knit, it's something I've inherited from my mother's family, and that's how I became interested in studying something related to knitting with gemstones.
"I chose to make jewelry because I love the idea of creating objects that people may love and value, as well as give a personal value to related to transcendental moments in their lives. I sought and found Juan Pacheco, the renowned creator of jewelry and the so-called Peruvian point (a special point for jewelry). In 2007 I enrolled in one of his courses and I haven't stopped crafting jewelry since then.
"There is always a difference between the first and last pieces of work and this brings to mind the time when, having little experience in knitting silver, a friend of mine bought a pair of earrings I had made. However her husband thought they were metallic sponges for washing pots! When I first heard about this I felt demoralized. But since I love making jewelry so much, and I believe that practice does make perfect, I decided to carry on and now my designs are truly appreciated.
"My interests haven't changed – what has changed is my material: I used to knit with cotton threads, now I work with silver threads. I love knitting, I could do it forever!
"My designs are unique works of art that I craft with extreme care: I love creating, constructing and combining. I'm constantly getting ideas which I then turn into jewelry or accessories. I make them for people who love exclusivity.
"My motivation comes from my passion, and from seeing people's faces when they’re wearing my pieces. Each of my designs is intended to transmit beauty, fortitude and self-assurance when worn.
"I regard my art as a special gift that I cherish and that I'm proud to have – it's not only regarding knitting, it includes anything I'm capable of doing with my hands, be it painting, sewing, or sculpting. I’m always doing something.
"I've not exhibited my jewelry in that many places. I had them in a tourist fair and my copper collection is in a gallery where many Lima artisans exhibit their work.
"There are always difficult moments in every person's life – starting something new can always be difficult and challenging, especially in such an independent profession such as mine. Nevertheless, thanks to my efforts and dedication, as well as to the support of my family and first clients, I've been able to overcome those initial hurdles. Now I’m consolidating my work and making a name for myself among those who specialize in the silver knitting techniques.
"To you, Novica client, I would like to assure you that each piece I craft is done with dedication and passion so you may have an exclusive piece of fine jewelry. Thank you for your support."
