Achara of Thailand presents a lovely handcrafted bracelet made of silver by the Karen hill tribe, a group of indigenous people in Thailand. The single band of silver is stamped with floral motifs on the sides and a row of fish swimming between four-petaled flowers in the center.

Achara is not only a talented jewelry artisan but is also a kind, dedicated entrepreneur. Her workshop has several full-time workers, and she provides work for a number of part-time silversmiths. Her part time collaborators are hill tribe artisans who struggle to survive. To ensure that these artisans have enough income to live on; Achara continually orders their silverwork and pays for it in advance. She does this even though she may have no orders for their work at the time. She is able to do this because of her Novica customers who provide a stable, steady income for her workshop.

Achara's workshop uses traditional silversmithing techniques to produce centuries-old designs as well as contemporary pieces inspired by Thai culture. Many artisans have been trained in her workshop. They learn not only traditional jewelry making but also how to apply modern quality control standards.

Achara's children are of university age. She currently pays for her daughter's higher education and, next year, she will also pay for her son's.
