Handcrafted Ceramic Cross Statuette from Peru, "The Cross of the Road"
Hand crafted by Maribel Posso Olivares of Peru, this statuette of The Cross in the Road is full of color and meaning. The Cross of the Road represents the death of Jesus Christ by crucifixion, and is meant to provoke thought and contemplation. The rooster symbolizes Peter's denial of Jesus. The hand represents the slap that Jesus received before the Sanhedrin (the Supreme Council of the Jews). The spear recalls the wound Jesus receives on his left side. The staircase represents the lowering of the cross after Jesus has died. The acronym INRI stands for Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudeorum, "Jesus Nazarene King of Jews." The red heart symbolizes the heart of Jesus. The red and white flag is the Peruvian flag.

"So adorable!!"

I fell in love with the traditional Pucara bulls during a visit earlier this year to Peru. While I purchased a large red & blue bull pair to display in my living room, I wanted a smaller one for my home office. Red is my favorite color so this one was absolutely perfect. The painting is beautifully executed & its very well made. Its the perfect size to sit on my bookshelf. Just seeing it reminds me of the beautiful Andes & a very memorable vacation. I highly recommend this item if youre looking to pick up some traditional Peruvian art into your home or office.

"Love my little Pucara Bull!"

We visited Peru a few years ago and visited the village of Pucara. I wanted a small Pucara Bull to match my larger ceramic Pucara Bull and this was the perfect addition to my souvenirs from South America!
