Hand Made Batik Wood Ornaments (Set of 3) from Indonesia, "Kawung Eggs"
Handcrafted from local wadang wood, this set of three Indonesian ornaments features beautiful kawung motifs by Gunadi. Depicting the feathers of a phoenix known as Lok Chan, kawung is a traditional style of decoration believed to have been invented by the king of Mataram, achieved here using the batik method, where a wax resist is applied to the egg-shaped ornaments before submerging them in vats of dye.

"Beauty in the detail and the distribution"

Hand made for up close appreciation with fine detail and pattern distribution around the curve of the eggs. Well weighted to hang on display.

"Makes me smile"

I get a little happy every time I see these ornaments. I had originally put them on a Christmas tree--they were the extra special touch among all the traditional stuff. My family thought they were cool and even wanted some. And actually, they are still on display, long after the Christmas decorations were put away.
