Signifying the importance of learning from the past, the Adinkra symbol Sankofa is depicted by a bird reaching to grab an egg off its back. Ghanaian artisan Cynthia Danquah creates this sculpture, which she carves by hand from sese wood. This piece of home decor is named Yonko Pa Ye, an Akan phrase that means "it pays to have a good friend."
