Hand Carved Jali-Themed Kadam Wood Wall Panel from India, "Flora and Fauna Peace"
Portraying a harmonious scene of peace and interdependence, Chander Kant interlaces twisting vines with social songbirds, living in harmony. He says that social creatures can agree to peace and order, protected by their own solidarity -- here within the bounds of a structured hierarchy against the chaos of the outer world, represented by the vines.
Kant offers this laborious work of art as his representation of the need for peace on Earth, and to inspire others to treat all with respect and compassion.
Continuing his family tradition of intricate woodcarvings, artisan Chander Kant sculpted this sophisticated wall panel in the traditional jali openwork style of India. Starting with a solid piece of kadam wood, Kant expertly carved the highly detailed labyrinth of flora and fauna by hand, exacting each curve from his own vision of peace.
