"The stars shaped by triangles and rhombuses carry a special meaning for us. The stars symbolize night, and the rhombuses signify wedding rings, commitment and good luck," explain Ixbalam Ke Women Weavers. The white cotton shawl is woven on a traditional back strap loom featuring the pikbil artistry the region is renowned for - it resembles paper cutouts. The fringe is braided and knotted by hand into elegant patterns.
