Details

This breathtaking Ayacucho rug comes from Cerapio Vallejo. This amazing craft has been around for centuries in the state of Ayacucho, having been passed down to the Incas after originating among the ancient Wari culture of Peru. Vallejo's preferred technique, called kilin, is characterized by a tight weave. Although extra fabric and 15 days of hard work are required for such rugs, the end result is an extraordinarily clear illustration. Vallejo achieves the rich colors in the rug by using natural dyes.

Titled "Colibrí" in Spanish.

"Beautiful"

I am looking at this rug as I type. Its very, very beautiful. The quality is superb. Ive had this rug for three years now and expect to have this rug for the rest of my life. One tip: buy one of those clear plastic rug-savers if you have a desk chair on it.

"Gorgeous and a true work of art"

I just unboxed my rug and am in love. The texture (soft wool), patterns, and vibrant colors male this rug sing. I can feel the artists joy in crafting it. Photos dont do it justice. I plan to enjoy for many years to come.

"Surprised"

Honestly, I was hesitant to get this tapestry because I was unsure if it would be one of a kind, or just a pattern that everyone else has. But after it arrived, I haven t stopped looking at it! It is beautiful and one of a kind. I looked at the birds and the design and it brings great joy! I especially like the two tiers above the tree. I assume, this is the ethereal place we live in, and eventually go to. The colors are bright and inviting!!! Truly a masterpiece!

Cerapio learned to weave from his father and grandfather. He draws inspiration from Peruvian culture and the Andean village life that he shared while growing up in Ayacucho. He treasures the art of weaving and the opportunities it has given him to preserve this centuries-old Peruvian tradition by teaching it to other artisans.
