Details

Catrina wears a whimsical hat with feathers and smiles a flirty grin. This sculpture by Armando Ramírez commemorates Mexico's Day of the Dead. The Catrina name refers to death personified who is always dressed in exuberant fashion and colors in order to lure mortals.

Always creative, Ramírez recycles castoff metal. Wire mesh becomes a broad-brimmed bonnet while sheet metal scraps are transformed into her gown. A spring, chain and wire are also used.

Ramírez does not give his sculptures a fine polished finish, therefore smudges and scratches may be present.
