Crimson Wood Cross Wall Sculpture with Milagros Charms, "Miraculous Crimson Cross"
Carved from pinewood and painted by hand, this petite wall plaque depicts a Christian cross with rounded ends. Jaime Hernandez covers the image with an assortment of milagritos, or "little miracles." These diminutive charms represent petitions or answered prayers and depict animals, possessions, and even body parts that have been healed. In Mexico, such charms are often given to the image of Christ or a saint in gratitude for miracles performed.
