Copal Wood Buffalo Alebrije from Mexico, "Magic Buffalo"
Jesus and Roxana Hernandez recreate this buffalo in colorful alebrije form. They hand-carve it from copal wood and decorate its body with joyful geometric patterns in a palette of turquoise, teal green, pastel pink, orange, and lavender purple.
The artisan couple comes from a Zapotec community in Oaxaca known for its alebrijes. Jesus takes care of the carving part while Roxana works her magic creating the colorful patterns that decorate their designs.

"What an adorable kitty!"
This little alebrije sculpture is adorable and just the right touch in my eating area. I particularly love the curved tail, which was carefully packaged separately to avoid breakage. This gato makes me smile every time I see it. Gracias, Jesus y Roxana!
