"Not all of us can trace our family's name back to medieval times, that is why I enjoy creating original coats of arms with elements and symbols of historic British ones," says Rivero as he introduces this oil on canvas. Though originally from France, the Fleur de Lys was also used in British coats of arms to symbolize a family's timeless devotion to the throne, as knights. They were the only ones who had the power to accept or refuse new members as knights, which is symbolized by the key. The sword above a brick wall refers to the people's readiness to stand and fight with their lord. The green horizontal bands symbolize love for peace and for nature, while the golden ones symbolized a family's riches. The crowned helmet over the coat of arms means a king -- who is also a knight -- rules over the kingdom. Acanthus leaves surrounding the coat of arms imply it belongs to an aristocratic family.
Titled "Blason flor de lys" in Spanish.
