Fierce and bold, an eagle takes shape in this dramatic cast aluminum sculpture. Flory Menezes depicts the keen eyes and powerful hunter's beak in a realistic avian image. "I explore its temperament," she says. "For me, it is a symbol of wisdom and inner strength."
Titled "Águia" in Portuguese
The Women's Empowerment badge is awarded to female artisans or artisan groups that are led by women.
"With my work, I have become a member of the National Sculpture Society in New York and the Brazilian Academy of Fine Arts in Rio de Janeiro." Menezes creations have been exhibited throughout Brazil, as well as in New York, New Jersey, and Paris.
Flory Menezes was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004 and underwent surgery twice. She was unable to work for a year but is back in her studio and is grateful to God.
Flory creates beautiful terracotta sculptures. For more than two decades, she has taught the younger generations her traditional techniques at her workshop.
Flory was awarded first place in the 'Brazil 500 Years' retrospective by the Brazilian Academy of Fine Arts.
