Braided Cord Bracelet with Corn Man Pendant from Guatemala, "Multicolor Maize Man"

The artisans of the Wakami cooperative draw inspiration from the ancient Mayan legend of the 'Maize People' for this colorful wrap bracelet. They craft it from braided multicolored cords and finish it with a unique pendant depicting the man of maize. Their lengths can be adjusted by sliding the knots along the cords.

The Wakami collective brings together more than 500 female artisans to provide them with training and access to international markets. The efforts have created big improvements in the artisans' families' quality of life and schooling levels.
