This captivating painting from Ghanaian artist E.O Dartey depicts a crowded marketplace in Accra. Local lorries called tro-tros make their way through the crowds. Tro-Tro is derived from the word "tro" in the Ga language, which means "three pence". In colonial times, the local lorry charged passengers three pence per trip, and so they came to be called tro-tros. These lorries have signs on their fronts such as,"No food for lazy man", "Chop time no friend" and "today be today". Dartey paints the scene in a dark monochrome palette with accents of brilliant red for the truck lights.
