A crimson gift box contains star ornaments from 8 countries that embody the NOVICA 'mantra' to preserve global artistic traditions for generations to come. Every ornament in this box showcases the traditional crafts that are indigenous to its region.
The 8 ornaments are :
'Little Andean Star' (Peru):
This lovely ornament is crafted from colorful woven acrylic fabric bordered with gold-colored thread and embellished with golden floral beads and two tiny figures in traditional Peruvian garb. Presented by Peruvian artisan Balvina Huaytalla, this Andean ornament is a way for her to share the heritage of Peru and her love for Ayacucho, her place of origin.
'Lavender Star' (Bali and Java):
A gorgeous monarch butterfly gazes out attentively from the surface of this vibrant star ornament. Balinese artisan Gusti Ngurah Semarajaya evokes environmental awareness and introduces Indonesia's natural beauty with its rich species of flora and fauna. The wooden star is hand-painted in acrylics on both sides.
'Christmas Star' (Brazil):
The Teixeira Family presents a unique double-sided star ornament that is precisely inlaid with a variety of exotic woods into a multicolored stripe motif. The five-pointed star is lightweight and ready to hang on your Christmas tree.
'Noche de Posadas' (Guatemala):
This cheerful five-pointed star from Jose Arriola is handmade of terracotta and features wonderfully colorful stripe, dot, and spiral painted motifs on both sides.
'Zardozi Star' (India):
A golden star glitters with grandeur as it conveys the spirit of Christmas in this beautiful ornament designed by Seema. The ornament is masterfully embellished with zardozi embroidery against a purple background, and features golden sequins and a gemlike central cabochon. The ornament is ready to hang from a braided golden cord.
'Alebrije Star' (Mexico):
An ornate blue star decorated in dazzling colors makes a beautiful addition to your holiday decor. Teresita Gonzalez transforms a found piece of copal wood into a delightful alebrije-style ornament. The painted motifs are inspired by a traditional folk art in Oaxaca, once based on twenty totems but today representing all kinds of animals. They take their name from a Caló gypsy word for "something difficult, tangled, confusing or fantastic."
'Joyous Star' (Thailand):
Thai artisan Duangkamol has been working with celadon ceramic for almost forty years, and her passion for this special art form shines as brightly as this charming Christmas ornament. Crafted by hand, the beautiful ceramic star is imprinted with Thai floral motifs that were inspired by the mosaics at Thai temples, and completed with a traditional pale green glaze.
'Ghana Star' (Ghana):
Presented by Awudu Saaed, this ornament is made from sese wood and beautified with colorful beading that reflects the culture of its origin. In African society, the star signifies hope and direction, a sense of seeing the future as bright and beautiful.
