Employing the traditional waist weaving technique, artisan weaver Mariano of the Center for Traditional Textiles of Cusco wove this wall hanging for the World Peace Project. He explains that its symbols "represent birds touching flowers, love, family, and peace with their beaks."
Mariano and other artisans from the Cusco Center for Traditional Textiles raise their own alpacas and llamas, shear them, and create the yarn employed in this exquisite wall hanging. After shearing and washing, the weavers spin the wool using a pushka (drop spindle), then dye it with natural dyes. For the waist loom, the weaver wraps one end of the loom around her waist with a strap, securing the other end of the loom to a tree or post, to begin creating works of art such as this.

"Unique, artful, beautiful colors, and useful, as well!"
This handbag is absolutely beautiful! The colors are both gentle and calming (the blues and greens) and eyecatchingly bright -- (the beautiful berry/wine colored section down the center, which also incorporates lots of other colors.) This bag has a wonderful texture to it, as well. I love that it was loom-woven, and is also one-of-a-kind. Its sturdy, and a useful size, as well, and easily holds my (large) wallet, phone, and other necessities.
