Standing with open arms, a couple of cuchimilcos proudly represents Peru's Chancay (1200 - 1470 A.D.). Their welcoming posture is believed to keep bad energies at bay. They are always found in pairs featuring a man and a woman symbolic of divine duality, a belief held by all pre-Hispanic cultures. Walter Jose Acosta masters ceramic techniques as he crafts each statuette by hand. He expertly replicates the artistic stylizations of the Chancay culture featuring a large head and small arms extended upwards, resembling wings. They are semi nude and adorned with red lines.

"Fabulous Pair of Figurines"

These Cuchimilco protection figurines are superbly detailed, and absolutely adorable. The artistry alone makes them museum quality. I'm proud of them, and they are displayed in a very prominent place.

"Beautiful conversation piece"

I bought this as a gift for myself to always remember the birth of my daughter and the beauty of delivering with a midwife. Having this piece in my home creates an opportunity to share this history and my connection to the story it tells.

This work is of the highest quality, a detailed reproduction of Nasca form and iconography unmatched not only in its aesthetic quality but also as a tool for the close-up study of typified Nasca figural representation.
