Autumn is the time of harvest in the Andean highlands. Cabbages, carrots, pumpkins and more keep villagers busy in this beautiful tapestry. Llamas, sheep, goats and pigs abound in this exuberant glimpse of Peru.
María Uyauri creates the scene in intricate arpillera – embroidered appliqués of fabric cutouts hand-stitched to a background of cotton. Crafted in three dimensions, each figure is lavishly embroidered. A display rod can slip through an opening at the top of the wall hanging.
