Tapping into his own resilience in the face of adversity, artisan Awudu Saaed crafts an original mask. He names his creation Sore Di Nkunim, which means "Rise and Conquer" in the Akan language. The mask is hand carved from rubberwood and features cheeks that are covered with embossed aluminum for textural interest.

Not sure how I stumbled upon this mask in the first place but from the moment I saw it, something about it haunted me. Its beautiful. I could NOT stop thinking about it and finally caved, and Im so glad I did. The colors, the beadwork, and the craftsmanship are all incredible. This is my favorite piece of art we own, by far. I cant wait to collect more of Awudu Saaeds work.
