The populous neighborhoods located on the hills of Rio de Janeiro are known as favelas and they are always bursting with life and color. They are Brazilian artist Arnaldo de Moraes' favorite motif which he depicts in abstract style with acrylic paints in striking works of art that marvel.

Titled Favela Preta e Branca Grande in Portuguese.Favelas are populous neighborhoods located on the hills of Rio de Janeiro and one of the best known is Dona Marta, named after saint Martha who is the patron of servants and cooks. Brazilian artist Arnaldo de Moraes recreates this favela in an abstract style with acrylic paints in primary shades of white, grey, red, yellow and blue. The multicolored houses take over the canvas along with the local residents. In the background stands a popular icon: the statue of Christ the Redeemer, arms opened on the top of the Corcovado hill from where he protects the whole city. Using white, gray and black as primary colors, Brazilian artist Arnaldo de Moraes imprints his style on a scene that lets us inside the everyday life and the typical landscape of a favela in Rio de Janeiro. Simple houses usually made of recycled wood that are the artist's favorite theme are built along the hills. Children with their mothers and neighbors pass each other in the corridors of the neighborhood. Together, they are a tight community. This stunning work of art is crafted with acrylic paints on canvas in an abstract style.

"wonderful"

this is a striking painting with presence. it is now framed with a gold frame which goes well with the richness of the colors.however it cost a fortune to frame! as i am 64 i like supporting this older master.
