Abstract Flags of the World Map Painting from Nigeria, "World Peace"

Earth's web of nations emanates from the life-giving globe, spanning different cultures, religions, philosophies and realities in an arbitrary fabric of chaos that is what humans decide to make of it. At the core of this globe, nature generates harmony and balance that sustains life itself. Interrupting this balance are humans who superimpose their power relations over Earth's finite surface. Nigeria's Sulyman Mustapha Bola illustrates this synthesized world with his abstract painting titled 'World Peace', calling for all nations of the Earth to build a mutual friendship.

Sulyman's composition sees the Earth divided between green lands and blue skies with a spherical fishpond at its center. Dividing land, sky and water, the red stains of conflict evidence a past of ignorance and greed. As each nation carves out its own spot on the map, more red lines litter the abyss of power. Sulyman's calls for love as a means to overcome hatred, depicting two kissing doves who carry a rose, with each dove symbolizing the unification of human hands in accord and acceptance.
