Gentle wave-like motifs flow gracefully around the base of this petite djembe drum by Abubakari Alhassan. The djembe drum originated in Benin, where it is used during voodoo rites, and has been introduced into neighboring countries; it has become indispensable in reggae. Named twene kituwa, which means "small drum" in the Twi language, it is carved of tweneboa wood. The goatskin head is affixed by iron rings wrapped in cotton, and a macramé cord can be slung over the shoulder.

Beautiful, well crafted brekete drum, will buy from this artist again.

As a gift to a musician friend, I recently purchased a Goji calabash piano. The both of us were extremely impressed with the craftmanship, detail, color and sound of the instrument. Mr. Alhassan is a wonderful artist, and it is a pleasure to eye, the mind and the soul to look at and hear this wonderful instrument. I wish him much success.
