My 3rd mirror. **Please use better hanging hardware!**

Product picture

This is my 3rd reverse painted mirror from Asunta Pelaez. 1st was the small Crimson Star; then the octagonal Black Star; and my birthday present was this golden Sweet Flower Majesty. They are all beautiful, but I do have one complaint: Though the mirrors increased in size/weight, all are pre-mounted only with a single relatively cheap piece of hanging hardware (pictured -- the scratches on the paint are from hanging the mirror my wall, the removing it for the picture). I would need to *very carefully* mount another piece of hanging hardware to hang a mirror horizontally. Also, the existing hardware is both somewhat flimsy (I live in an earthquake zone), and mounted so near the edge of the frame that if you use a hook instead of just a nail, the hook is visible above the mirror. At the moment, my solution is to paint my hanging hook to match my wall. I would prefer to mount better hardware to the mirror, but the mirror is thin and I worry about breaking it if I add hardware!

Gifted this to my son

Product picture

I gifted this to my son who lived across the United States and I didn't see him often, but he had moved into a new home. When I saw it for the first time, I had forgotten it and I asked "where did you get that beautiful mirror?" Truly an outstanding piece of art work.

Reverse Painted Glass Mirrors

Reverse glass painting has some counterintuitive challenges. The artist must paint the figures backwards from how they will be viewed from the other side of the glass. If that wasn’t enough of a struggle, the finest details—wrinkles, eyebrows, shading—must be applied first, so that they are closest to the glass surface and ultimately sit on top of dress colors, background motifs, and any other general parts of the painting. Paint dries slowly on glass, meaning that each reverse glass painted mirror must be meticulously done. The end result is a painting that people describe as having an intriguing depth. Due to its challenges, however, reverse glass painting is a more rare form. With artistic ardor and concern for the extinction of traditional art forms, Edmundo Contreras aspires to preserve history, as well as beauty, through his reverse painted glass mirrors.
