"I feel very contented when I think of how my work is appreciated in people's homes both inside and outside Peru. I share this happiness with my family."
Gelacio Girón Fernández is an artisan with a long and exceptional career in handicrafts. Born February 4, 1958, he moved to the capital as a teen to study for a degree in accounting, which he received in 1986. He showed his talent for the arts while still in school, and began to sell his wood work and painted glass through an artisan cooperative.
He now proudly shows his designs in craft fairs, and in 1997 formed an association of craftspeople dedicated to Peruvian arts. Working with his three brothers in his own workshop, he strives for beauty and quality in each piece they create. "I feel very contented when I think of how my work is appreciated in people's homes both inside and outside Peru," he says. "I share this happiness with my family."
