Lake Titicaca - Life among the Reeds Curated by: JJMarin
Lake Titicaca - that huge, high altitude lake that stretches between Peru and Bolivia - here gives inspiration to Andean artists. Step gingerly onto the floating manmade reed islands where the Uros peoples live, and experience their unique lifestyle. Did you know their reed boats helped inspire Thor Heyerdahl to sail across the Pacific on the balsa raft Kon-Tiki? Come be inspired yourself by Titicaca's watery world, a world of weaving and reed-craft, cormorants and fishing, spirituality and community. Below, a collection of art, jewelry and clothing inspired by the culture, wildlife and colors of the Lake.
About the Curator
I love cooking and experimenting with global cuisines. I love to travel also, especially meeting welcoming locals, tromping through jungle ruins, and chasing exotic birds with my camera. My husband and I live in Asia, so we have been blessed to be able to travel and visit many countries, first by land, and now by sea as new sailors!
