Original Wood Wall Mask Hand Carved in Ghana, "Fang Origins"$147.99
Styled after the masks created by the Fang peoples of Gabon and Equatorial Guinea, this mask is the original design of Salihu Ibrahim. It features a concave face and markings on one cheek that are evocative of scarification practices. The mask is hand carved from sese wood and finished with local clay for an aged look.
Artisan Crafted Wood Mask, "Ancestor's Spirit"$169.99
A faithful replica of the renowned "White Masks of the Ogooue," this mask personifies an ancestral spirit of the Kota and Mukudji people from Gabon. Known as "Punu," the ancestral spirit is believed to guide one to the hereafter; Punu masks are reserved for important village festivities. Salihu Ibrahim hand-carves the mask of sese wood featuring half-opened eyes and slightly raised pursed lips. The forehead is embellished with a distinct diamond-shaped motif; it is crowned with a stylized hairdo. Once the mask is carved and the wood has dried thoroughly, it is treated with clay to appear like an antique piece.
Hand Made Gabonese Wood Mask, "Punu Beauty"$137.99
Almond eyes beneath arched brows represent the Punu standard of feminine beauty. Painted white, the serene features suggest one who has passed on to the realm of spirits. The tall hairdo denotes a woman from the Punu tribe of the upper Ngoume River region of southwestern Gabon. Salihu Ibrahim carves a lovely mask used during funeral rites.
Fang Style Hand Carved Wood Mask, "Fang Vision"$149.99
This original design from Salihu Ibrahim pays tribute to the mask styles of the Fang peoples of Gabon and Equatorial Guinea. Carved by hand from sese wood, the elongated face is concave and features a prominent brow and forehead. The artisan uses local clay to give the mask an aged appearance.
