This tray is really beautiful. I am very happy with it, but I would caution buyers that the finish is not smooth and glossy, as I thought it would be. It?s more of a porous, Terra cotta feel. I say this because, in spite of its description as suitable for food, microwave safe and dishwasher safe, I can?t imagine doing any of those things. I suspect my daughter will use it more for a catch all tray on her bureau. It?s truly lovely.
I am giving this as a Christmas gift. It is perfect and I know my daughter will love it. You do superb work.
This adds even more beauty to our large collection of this artists work, including 2 large Ocean Tide bowls. We have never been disappointed, and this plate is gorgeous.
Artisan Crafted Talavera Style 15 Inch Platter, "Zacatlan Feast"$84.99
Flowers blossom with an exuberant feast of colors on a platter designed in the Talavera style of the state of Puebla. The motifs are painted by hand over the ivory-color ceramic plate with a palette that includes yellowish-orange, blue, and green flowers over a crisscross network of dots and crosses. Bordered by a black honeycomb, this oval plate comes from the "Zacatlán" collection designed by Pedro Tecayehuatl.
Talavera is a distinctive art form brought to Mexico by artisans from Talavera de la Reina, Spain. The ceramic artisans of Puebla, Mexico then incorporated Chinese designs, thus creating the blue and oyster-white patterns traditionally associated with Talavera Poblana. Today there are also more "contemporary" designs that include yellow, green, orange, mauve, black and red.
National and international conventions require that a rigorous procedure be followed in the elaboration of authentic Talavera-style ceramics. Each individual piece will be slightly different, and therefore a unique work of art.
