Ceramic soup bowls, 'Sunshine Kaleidoscope' (pair)

By Sue
Als entire collection is stunning!
Our purchase of Alonso Luis Talavera began nearly 20 years ago in a San Miguel de Allende gallery, and we continued to collect several pieces while visiting Mexico over the next ten years. In 2007 we had the enormous privilege of visiting the small factory itself in a town outside of Puebla. Mr. Luis himself graciously escorted us through the factory and showed us the steps to create his treasures, starting from the pile of clay outside through the final firing. As we no longer travel to Mexico, we are delighted to find ALs Talavera at Novica! We use our elegant Talavera plates and bowls and mugs daily and do not hesitate putting them into the dishwasher. We also display AL Talavera both on plate stands and behind glass cabinet doors. Guests never fail to comment on its beauty, expecting it to be European, mainly Italian, rather than Mexican. Whether it be for a special display item or daily use, I highly recommend the beauty and serviceability of AL Talavera! We love it!

Artisan Crafted 11 Inch Blue Talavera Style Ceramic Plate, "Talavera Kaleidoscope"
$84.99A mosaic of blue daisies is captivating in a Talavera-style plate with scalloped borders designed by Alonso Luis. The lavish composition on the enameled ceramic plate is painted by hand with the same characteristic palette of colors that distinguish Talavera artistry, such as green, cobalt blue, and yellow underscored by an ivory hue.

Majolica Ceramic Blue Floral Cup and Saucer, "Puebla Kaleidoscope"
$67.99A flower blossoms with scintillating beauty, spreading its petals throughout the ivory background of this cup and saucer. Like a kaleidoscope in blue undertones, the magnificent design is by Pedro Tecayehuatl, expert in the legendary art of Talavera-style ceramics from Puebla. Featuring black contours, the cobalt blue cup and saucer are crafted by hand.
Talavera is a distinctive art form brought to Mexico by artisans from Talavera de la Reina, Spain. The ceramic artisans of Puebla, Mexico then incorporated Chinese designs, thus creating the blue and oyster-white patterns traditionally associated with Talavera Poblana. Today there are also more "contemporary" designs that include yellow, green, orange, mauve, black and red.
National and international conventions require that a rigorous procedure be followed in the elaboration of authentic Talavera-style ceramics. Each individual piece will be slightly different, and therefore a unique work of art. -
