“This journey began with my dad. Both of us are from Brazil, but we began living in Guatemala more than ten years ago. We feel totally Guatemalan at heart; Guatemala is a country full of wonderful, warm, and helpful people, and we have become infected by this good nature. We love this country a lot.
“When we lived in Brazil, my dad started creating pieces from bamboo, such as necklaces, rings, and bracelets with my brother. We were always very curious and spent a lot of time in the little workshop that my dad worked in. It was an art that we fell in love with from the very start.
“Living in Guatemala, my dad searched for other alternatives in order to continue making jewelry items, and he came across the beauty of silver and jade. My brother and I were not very good, but my dad’s talents were natural. He began to teach us, step by step, how to make jewelry pieces, from weighing and smelting the silver to cutting and polishing the jade, until I began to create my own pieces. I was more inclined towards the design aspect, and together we began creating marvelous pieces. We worked a lot every week, which helped me to improve my creative abilities.
“When I’m in my workshop, my mind soars, and my designs revitalize my life. Silver is a very noble material that allows us to develop a limitless number of designs. Jade is a precious stone that we love to be able to work with. Together, these materials form final pieces that are totally beautiful.
“I work alongside other people that have taught me a lot of things, and for whom I am extremely grateful. We have created a wonderful family. Each day is a new opportunity to learn from them. They are geniuses at what they do; I can say that I have learned from the best.
“It fills me with a lot of satisfaction to pursue this dream with Novica. I had always thought of showing my pieces in different parts of the world, but was never able to bring it to reality. With my pieces, people all over can see the beauty of Guatemala and hold in their hands a piece that is 100% handcrafted with a lot of dedication and love. I am fortunate to have this ability.”
