"I was born in the city of Lima, where we five children and our parents lived in the cultural and bohemian district of Barranco. My father was a civilian working for the Peruvian army and my mother worked in a fashion design house. After high school, I studied to be a bilingual secretary but I wasn't able to complete my degree because money was tight.
"As far as knitting and crochet work, I consider myself self taught. When I was six, my mother gave me my first set of knitting needles and a ball of yarn. She began teaching me to knit and, when she didn't have time, a neighbor taught me new stitches and patterns. This is how I began, but I never imagined this art would be such an important part of my life. When I was 17, I was able to make a dress for my sister from a design I saw in a magazine.
"I was an inquisitive person and I liked to read books on needlework and take courses. I went to work in a bank as a sales executive but spent most of my free time knitting and crocheting for my family. I believe that when God blesses you with an ability, it becomes a part of your day to day life.
"Years ago, I offered to knit a sweater for my nephew's first communion only two days later. I worked day and night! Fortunately, I was able to finish it but I was just too tired to attend the event.
"Today, I'm married and have children of my own. I still knit and crochet whenever I can. Although I never dreamed of selling my work, it has been a real blessing because in 2011, I had an accident and had to quit my job. That's when I decided to work from home and began working in jute. It's perfect for crafting handbags, jewelry cases and more in delightful colors. Little by little, I began exhibiting my work in fairs, until I met Novica.
