Wood statuette, 'Winged Dragon'

By Susan
House Protector!
My husband and I visited Bali in 1990 and loved the work of many different artists. Since the Winged Dragon is a protector of the home, this carving is a house-warming gift for our sons first house. The detail is wonderful; the expression fierce and protective. The back of the wings is smooth and shows the wood without carving, providing a peaceful contrast to the forward menace. I love it, and know he will also.
Wood sculpture, 'Buddha's Lesson'

Such wisdom and peacefulness from this work!
I have watched this artist for a long time and admired so much of his work. This piece is an honor to have in my home and is a visible reminder of the dharma I want to live. Thank you Wyan for this beautiful work of your hands. It will be treasured by me as the gift it is.
Blue agate and cedar coasters, 'Sky High' (set of 6)

By John
Magnificent
After looking high and low for a coaster with some resilience in a house with young kids (not all glass, marble, etc.), won t scratch surfaces, durability to wear and tear (not all wood which will get water rings) and a holder (my goodness why is it so hard to find a holder!) I stumbled upon this beautiful set which ticks all the boxes. Really stunning and a great conversation piece. I don t usually make time to write reviews but the craftsmanship on these is really remarkable. My only piece of constructive feedback would be to improve the felt material on the bottom of the coaster/holder, otherwise 5/5. Will be looking for more household items on Novica. Great find!

Hand Carved Wood Snake Sculpture, "Cobra"
$69.99In an amazing display of his eye for detail and steady hand, Wayan Rendah carves accacia wood into an incredibly realistic portrayal of a poisonous cobra. The serpent's arched head and coiled tail reveal its strength and charisma in a powerful way. In Bali, the cobra is considered a holy serpent, often portrayed in the company of Siwa, the god of balance. Siwa is one of the three gods in Bali that governs birth, life and death. Siwa is often shown with a cobra that rests on his head and around his neck while he peacefully sits in a meditative state.

Hand Carved Wood Dragon Sculpture, "Winged Dragon"
$79.95The recurrent theme of the dragon in Balinese art underscores the legendary animal's divinity in their culture, a motif that has not escaped the artistic eye of Seji Taram. Believed to be the guardian of the gods, this baby suar wood dragon with wings fiercely protects the sanctity of the home.

African Wood Mask, "Sign of Protection"
$74.99A master of traditional African design, Godfred France creates a mask that arises from his own imagination. Its serene circular shape is harmonious, balanced by big round eyes and a gently rounded mouth. But it is the rich repoussé ornamentation that distinguishes this handcrafted work of art. It is named a Hausa word that means "protection."
