Round Jali Pattern Alabaster Decorative Vase from India, "Royal March"
Marching around the exterior of this decorative vase, a parade of elephants is regal. Indian artisan Gulam Rasool creates this round vase, which is carved by hand from a single piece of natural alabaster. The intricate patterns are realized with lovely openwork characteristic of traditional jali architectural designs.

"Delicately beautiful"
I bought this item as a birthday gift for one of my Sisters. She absolutely loved it. I was not able to see it in person right away since we live in different States, but when I did see it, I wished I had ordered one for myself! The design is intricate, and very well done.

Close to his eightieth birthday, Gulam continues the art he learned from his elders. His father was an marble carver and jali artisan honored with the state award for excellence. Gulam has been honored with the same distinction. He still works alongside his son and other artisans to whom he has taught this craft, and treasures the role he plays in continuing this important Indian artistic tradition.
