Delivery EstimateHovering on whirring wings, a whimsical hummingbird seeks out the sweet nectar of flowers. Zeny and Reyna transform found pieces of copal wood into a delightful alebrije. These fanciful sculptures are a traditional folk art in Oaxaca, once based on twenty totems but today representing all kinds of animals. They take their name from a Calo gypsy word for "something difficult, tangled, confusing or fantastic."
Because each alebrije is individually created work of folk art, shapes will vary slightly. Small parts are separated for shipping to protect from breakage.

"Very unique"
When I saw this on Novica s Facebook page, I fell in love. My mom is an avid hummingbird lover. She recently had back surgery and her favorite spot to rest is her “Carolina Room”. All windows so she can watch her hummingbirds all day. This was delivered within a week of ordering and was beautifully gift wrapped. "A wonderful good morning every day when I look out"
Every morning I wake up to a big smile when I look out the kitchen window at the purple hummingbird who brings not only joy to me but to several birds of all kinds who will land on the window ledge to get acquainted. Sometimes their will be other humming birds fluttering around this one all waiting their turn to meet the new kid in the neighborhood. Its amazing to watch nature at work and Reyna and Zeny have helped tremendously.

"A delight."
The arrival of this hummingbird coincided with the arrival of the first hummingbirds at my feeder on their migration north. The craftsmanship is excellent; the detail and delicate colouring exceptional. I will enjoy this throughout the year and it is a prized addition to other Oaxaca items I have from visits to that area of Mexico.

"So Delicate and Beautiful!"
My husband just assembled the feathers into the body of our hummingbird and I hung it in our living room window over the plants on the sill. It is extraordinarily beautiful reflected in the window with its iridescent colors. Such an artistic delight!

"Wow! Such amazing detials!"
I knew as soon as I saw this treasure I had to buy it! -- Painted with the wisdom of turtles (just one symbolism for turtles). Now they also have available a blue bull with fish! So tempting! The painting details and carving of the bull are just incredible. Perfection! I am always in awe when I receive these pieces from Zeny and Reyna. So happy to see that more of their artworks are available here on Novica.
