The artists from the Flores Family Workshop depict a monumental sculpture from Mexico's Templo Mayor. They depict Coyolxahuqui, the moon goddess of the Aztec people, or Mexica, as they called themselves. Legend says that she was slain by her brother, Huitzilopochtli, after she tried to kill her mother, Coatlicue, who had become pregnant again. The original polychrome monolith stood at the base of the temple as a warning of the fate for enemies of Huitzilopochtli and of the Mexica people.
The artists work in alcohol ink over an aluminum repoussé panel, which arrives framed.
